Protecting your admin page with Google Authenticator

In keeping with today’s technology age, in this article I will talk about a technological method of protecting the Admin page with Google Authenticator. In order to use the method described in this article, it is absolutely necessary to have an IOS (iPhone) or Android based phone. If you do not have a device with these features, unfortunately you do not have a chance to implement what is described here.

First, you’ll need to install and enable the Google Authenticator plugin by saying Add New from the Add-ons you need to do.

Then click the Profile tab in the Users menu. There is a setting called Google Authenticator Settings. If you have not activated the plug-in you will not see this part.

When section number 1 is marked here, the plugin will start working on the Admin Login page. Code # 2 installed on your phone will keep the code change period long for Google Authenticator, you can enable it. If you write number 3, the word will also be displayed on the part where the code on the phone is generated, so that it will avoid confusion with other generated codes. Because if you use this application for more than one site, you will avoid the mess like this. Section 4 will add the code application for the phone. Google Authenticator app on iPhone or Android download to your phone you want to add a new application Secret need to enter the code in by parts, or QR code shown in green arrow with your phone’s barcode reader by reading TA can handle this process. Method 2 is a simpler method.

If you open Authenticator from your phone after this process, you will see that codes are generated within a certain period of time as you can see below.

Now, if you want to save the settings and re-enter the Admin page, you will be asked for a Google Authenticator code from you besides the User Name and Password. This code can also be entered to enter the site. Otherwise you will not be able to log in.

I do not know about you, but I also use this application to protect my GMail account and other accounts except WordPress sitemap protection. It is also an important security practice that I strongly recommend to you. I especially like to share this article with your friends too!
